WW Editorial: Defend Social Security |
by Workers World ww (nospam) workers.org (unverified) |
13 Jan 2005
|
|
Bush and his cronies on Wall Street are opening up a frontal attack on Social Security, using a sophisticated campaign of lies, exaggerations and half-truths aimed at minimizing opposition and pushing through their program to privatize this basic human right. Their goal is to get vast amounts of Social Security funding in the hands of investment bankers and eat up a percentage of those funds in commissions for the financial industry. |

The 'Black Book' of U.S. Imperialism: Ward Churchill's Roosting Chickens |

Todd Gitlin, Paul Berman and assorted intellectuals of the "decent left" have earned their keep arguing that anti-imperialism is nothing but an echo chamber of nihilism, oedipal rage and tacit support for whomever the governing class declares the enemy. Once upon a time their kind derided the Communist left as window dressing for the gulag; now they argue with parallel duplicity that anti-imperialists are shills for "Islamo-fascist" death cults and suicide bombers. As the gate-keepers of acceptable dissent, that is to say "none," they rarely take time to note what it is, this America, they've declared their loyalty to and what it is exactly the "anti-Americans" oppose. |

On Ethnic Cleansing: Israeli Zionist Historian Benny Morris Speaks Out!! — An Interview |
by (posted by J Anderson) (No verified email address) |

|
|
Benny Morris says he was always a Zionist. People were mistaken ... when they thought that his historical study on the birth of the Palestinian refugee problem was intended to undercut the Zionist enterprise. Nonsense, Morris says ... So they came to the mistaken conclusion that when Morris describes the cruelest deeds that the Zionist movement perpetrated in 1948 he is actually being condemnatory, that when he describes the large-scale [ethnic] expulsion operations [against the Palestinians by Israel's founders] he is being denunciatory. They did not conceive that the great documenter of the sins of Zionism in fact identifies with those sins. |

Imperialism deepens tsunami toll |
by Fred Goldstein (No verified email address) |
11 Jan 2005

The enormity of the disaster that has befallen the peoples of the Indian Ocean region can only be comprehended in terms of the fundamental contradiction of the modern age: the antagonism between the enormous productive forces unleashed by stunning scientific-technological advances and the outmoded social system of capitalist exploitation. This technology, which holds the capability of alleviating and eliminating the age-old burdens afflicting humanity, is owned by a capitalist class that utilizes it to pursue profits, and the result is an increase in human misery. |
