On March 20th thousands of people protested on Boston Common agaist the war. At the time it seemed that the local anti-war movement was beginning a resurgence that was much needed after many people were diverted into the pointless (yes, pointless) electoral struggle that led to the re-election of Bush.
It took like five seconds to find what I was looking for. A few years
ago, when activist Rachel Corrie died while she was attempting
to disrupt Israeli bulldozers I was mildly shocked to read Republican
bloggers who thought it was funny. I can't recall exactly what they
said but it was standard Republican hate speech along the lines of,
the dumb liberal had it coming; thanks for removing your hippie genes
from the gene pool; &c. It was really sick, poisonous stuff anyhow.
What’s going on here? Up in Canada, executives in charge of the Canadian subsidiaries of U.S. firms are not just praising Canadia’s socialized medical system; they’re lobbying to have it expanded to include pharmacy and home health care. Back here in the States, though, they’re all lobbying furiously against any hint of government-funded health care.
