Tsunami’s Double Victims: A Tidal Wave of Discrimination against Burmese Migrant Workers on Thailand’s Andaman Sea Coast
14 Jan 2005
Burmese migrant workers at evacuation center.jpgThe aftermath of the Great Wall of Water remains a complex text through which to read the contradictions and prejudices of Thai society. This is highlighted by the brutal treatment of Burmese migrant workers on the southwestern Thai coast since 12/26.

Slavery Still Legal In Many Places
13 Jan 2005
When an environmental disaster strikes, such as the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and resulting tsunamis on December 26, 2004, many of our species will sit and wait for food, water, and shelter, and even die when it does not arrive on time. They have been falsely trained to believe that they are truly helpless, except for prayer.

WW Editorial: Defend Social Security
13 Jan 2005
Bush and his cronies on Wall Street are opening up a frontal attack on Social Security, using a sophisticated campaign of lies, exaggerations and half-truths aimed at minimizing opposition and pushing through their program to privatize this basic human right. Their goal is to get vast amounts of Social Security funding in the hands of investment bankers and eat up a percentage of those funds in commissions for the financial industry.

The 'Black Book' of U.S. Imperialism: Ward Churchill's Roosting Chickens
13 Jan 2005

As the gate-keepers of acceptable dissent, that is to say "none," they rarely take time to note what it is, this America, they've declared their loyalty to and what it is exactly the "anti-Americans" oppose.

On Ethnic Cleansing: Israeli Zionist Historian Benny Morris Speaks Out!! — An Interview
12 Jan 2005
Benny Morris says he was always a Zionist. People were mistaken ... when they thought that his historical study on the birth of the Palestinian refugee problem was intended to undercut the Zionist enterprise. Nonsense, Morris says ... So they came to the mistaken conclusion that when Morris describes the cruelest deeds that the Zionist movement perpetrated in 1948 he is actually being condemnatory, that when he describes the large-scale [ethnic] expulsion operations [against the Palestinians by Israel's founders] he is being denunciatory. They did not conceive that the great documenter of the sins of Zionism in fact identifies with those sins.
