France: Calais Refugee Camp Evicted

Since over a week, the French government has been violently evicting the estimated 3,500 people living in the south half of the Calais refugee camp, located in northern France at the border to the UK. The eviction began on February 29th, as shelters were bulldozed and many caught fire after being hit by teargas canisters. In spite of police use of gas, water cannons and violence, many of the camp's residents have resisted and 12 Iranians have gone on hunger strike since March 2nd.
