There is a lot of talk going back and forth on progressive forums lately about using this election to make a statement, by not voting for Kerry. Some even go so far as to suggest voting for Bush because, if Kerry wins, too many people will go back to being complacent, whereas, if Bush wins, things will get so bad that the majority of Americans will finally wake up and realize the error of their ways. It's time people took a look at reality.

Personally, we’re also strangely inspired by the "worst" kind of spectacles in American culture: not just the visual engineering of Top Gun Dubya on the USS Lincoln, but the seductive sleight of hand of corporate advertising and the tongue-in-cheek hubris of Las Vegas. We believe that progressives, in spite of our abiding Enlightenment-era faith in rationality, must learn to use spectacle as a tool of political communication – not grudgingly, but enthusiastically and free of guilt.

1. Revolution Books Outlet has had a booth at every Concert of Colors since its inception. This year, New Detroit has banned RBO from the event. It appears to be based on a bogus attempt to label RBO’s support for the struggle of the Palestinian people as anti-Jewish.
