At the upcoming Summit of the Americas 34 heads of state from the western hemisphere will gather to negotiate a trade agreement never seen by their citizens or even their elected representatives. The FTAA has profound implications for human rights, social services, the environment and labor. With secretative negotiations set to take place behind two walls in Quebec City Canada on April 21-22, it's no suprise that thousands of concerned citizens will be out to protest.
In Canada, news about the WTO and free trade is consistently published. The same is not true here in Boston, however. The Boston Globe has barely covered the upcoming Summit of the Americas or the FTAA which will be the topic of dicussion.
