Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year’s Presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the Nation’ s confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law.
As a Constitutional scholar I became curious to see what role the Supreme Court would play in this election. I was stunned by the Court's activism in its recent decision to halt the manual recount of votes in Florida, so I decided to check up on the legitimacy of the Supreme Court to rule on political disputes. What I found was an obscure decision from 1849, in the case of Luther v. Borden.
But this is only a partial explanation. The nature of the apartheid regime in Israel has also been obfuscated and white-washed with the help of the Western "democracies", including the United States and Australia, whose rulers consider it in their interests to support and protect Israel's abuses of the human rights of the Palestinian people.
Last night at the Boston Public Library Mayors and public officials from across the country met. All this week is the National League of Cities. Protesters were hard to find but the Fire dept. was protesting vigourously.
