Latino Protesters Chase Away LA Riot Police, Calling them "Assholes" |

A short clip from La Gran Marcha 2006, a massive march in Los Angeles against HR4437 and for amnesty. The corproate media put the size of the march at 500,000. Univision said the march was 2 million people. The police and mayor said it was the largest protest they have ever seen. What happens when 30 riot cops try to enter into a crowd of that size?
They get chased out by a crowd of punks and youth chanting " culeros, culeros " (assholes, assholes!). The crowd threw a water bottle at them as well, but it fell just outside of the frame.

Woman Gets $100 Ticket For "BUSHIT" Bumper Sticker |

A Georgia woman was pulled over while driving and issued a $100 ticket for her "BUSHIT" bumpersticker, despite the fact the statute she was cited under was struck down over 15 years ago as being unlawful. She plans to fight the ticket in court. |

Trade Treaties Increase Root of Undocumented Immigration |

President Vicente Fox paused for a long moment before answering a question on how long it would take Mexico to reach a stage where citizens no longer want to cross the U.S. border to seek work.
"Generations," he finally said.
"It's a long way to narrow the gap ... between incomes in Mexico and on the other side of the border," he said in a recent interview with Reuters.
That income gap is the principal reason why hundreds of thousands of Mexicans cross the border with the U.S. illegally to seek work -- yet it rarely figures in the heated and increasingly emotional debate over immigration now raging in the United States.
Roughly half of Mexico's population lives on less than $5 a day, according to government figures. The U.S. minimum wage is $5.15 an hour. Annual Mexican Gross Domestic Product per capita is just under $7,000. It is almost $44,000 in the United States.
The gap is now wider than it was when Mexico, the United States and Canada signed the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1992. |

Colombia pretends to be a well run, highly sophisticated democracy and indeed it looks like one. But the reality is far different, far more sinister. That is why I went, to see for myself what the U.S. is doing. The U.S. overshadows every aspect of Colombia’s war. Whether through Plan Colombia, the war on drugs, or the war on terrorism, whatever they call it, the U.S. funds, organizes and orchestrates a war against the poor, and actively enforces the massive displacement of people on behalf of its multinationals, particularly its oil companies, under the so-called “Free Trade Agreement of the Americas.†As one person told me, Colombia is ground zero for globalization.
A few months ago, PBS News asked President Bush about the future of Iraq. “The future of Iraq is Colombia,†he answered with a grin. Iraq is destroyed, but the world recoils at the horror of U.S. warfare. He would prefer a war modeled on Colombia, where the U.S. wipes away the indigenous peoples, steals their land, gives it to its multinational corporations, and maintains a façade of democracy so that everyone thinks the war is for a noble cause, that all goes well in the fight for freedom. He wants to control Iraq like the U.S. controls Colombia--stealing its rich natural resources, without the rest of the world knowing or caring... |

Man says cops ordered him to dig grave |

NEW YORK (AP) -- A tow truck driver testified Tuesday that he was forced to dig the grave of a jeweler who was allegedly kidnapped and killed in 1986 by two New York City detectives moonlighting as hit men for the mob.
A gangster involved in the Brooklyn slaying "told me that I had to help bury the dead man," Peter Franzone said at the federal trial of the former detectives, Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa. "He said if I told anybody, he'd kill me and my family."... |

The people’s movement in LA, France, Thailand, China, Philippines, the South Americas etc., verifies a power dynamic outlined in an earlier paper:<br />

Government agencies in Orange County shut down by massive walkouts |

Details are still sketchy, but it appears that the Orange County Treasurer/Tax Collector's office and a number of other government agencies were shut down yesterday when Santa Ana high school students flooded them in protest of anti-immigration legislation being pushed in the U.S. Congress. |

Several of Santa Ana's poorest working class Mexican neighborhoods suddenly found themselves under a state of siege last night when an estimated two hundred Santa Ana police officers, Orange County Sheriff's deputies, and California Highway patrolmen descended into the area and squelched a peaceful protest near the intersection of Bristol and McFadden Streets. |
