Osama bin Laden appears to be one more installment in a succession of evidence fabricated by the US government to deceive the American people, according to Scholars for 9/11 Truth. "This tape is only the latest in a series of fabrications intended to mislead the American people," said James H. Fetzer, the society's founder. "The closer we get to revealing the truth about 9/11, the more furiously the government fights to conceal it!" He said members of Scholars and other experts had detected evidence of fakery. |

Michael Moore vs Mumia |

The applause again subsided and a strong voice was heard from the crowd, “What about Mumia Abu-Jamal?â€
The reference was to Moore’s statement in his 2003 book, "Dude, Where’s My Country?" On page 183 Moore falsely and without substantiation asserts in a section entitled "How to talk to your conservative brother-in-law" that Mumia "did indeed kill the cop, " referring to the 1981 murder of Police Officer Daniel Faulkner.
Moore has since apologized for what he now considers to be a mistaken and errant remark. He did so several months ago, mildly, on Amy Goodman’s Pacific Radio talk show, "Democracy Now!" He followed correctly by refraining from repeating the lie in the paperback edition of his book.
However, Moore’s prominence, the damage done to Mumia’s fight for his life and freedom resulting from the false charge in his best-selling book far outweigh the positive action he took in his less publicized retraction.
Mumia activists, who marched down the auditorium’s center aisle with a huge poster of Mumia. Moore immediately responded with an open and frank apology. He told the audience that he was mistaken and his remark was without foundation. He said that Mumia had not received a fair trial.
However, supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal, believe that, given Moore’s prominence, the damage done to Mumia’s fight for his life and freedom resulting from the false charge in his best-selling book far outweigh the positive action he took in his less publicized retraction. |

First Female Concientious Objector |

FT. BENNING, GA – Army National Guard Specialist Katherine Jashinski received a bad conduct discharge on May 23rd and was sentenced to 120 days confinement after pleading guilty to the charge of “refusal to obey a legal order.†She was acquitted of the more serious charge of “missing movement by design.†With 53 days already served (on Fort Benning), and 20 days off for good behavior, Ms. Jashinski has 47 days of confinement remaining.
On November 17, 2005, Jashinski made a public statement of conscientious objection on the eve of her scheduled deployment to Afghanistan. Eighteen months after filing, the Army denied her application for a discharge. She was then court-martialed for refusing to train with weapons. |

Chile stamps on student protest |

Chilean riot police have used water cannon and tear gas to disperse students marching and dancing in the streets to protest against bus fares, exam fees and poorly equipped schools.
Dozens of students were arrested in the capital and hundreds of schools closed all over Chile as more than 300,000 students occupied school grounds, calling for improved education in one of South America's wealthiest countries.
An AP report said up to 600,000 people took part in the protests, which have put pressure on the government to back down from an earlier refusal to negotiate with the students.
Martin Zilic, the education minister, said he would meet student leaders to hear their demands and was "prepared to work on all topics".
Protests began two weeks ago when students took over a few schools in the capital - sleeping overnight in classrooms and eating food brought in by sympathetic parents. |

Video Ties Rumsfeld to Abu Ghraib Abuses |

Court martial proceedings have begun for an Army sergeant accused of using military dogs to threaten detainees at Abu Ghraib. The trial of Sgt. Santos Cardona may expose who within the Pentagon’s chain of command ordered soliders to abuse and torture detainees at the Iraqi prison. For the first time Major General Geoffrey Miller is expected to testify about what happened at the prison. Until now Miller has refused to publicly speak about his role overseeing interrogations at Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo. Meanwhile it has now been revealed that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld directly communicated with Miller and other senior defense officials by video-teleconference about interrogation matters in November and December 2003. Lawyers for Sgt. Cardona are attempting to obtain copies of these videoconferences to use as their defense. |

Did I hear that word again (communist)? The comment/accusation was directed at the Timorese Prime Minister Alkatiri during an Oz 'newscast' – certainly puts an interesting slant on the Timor situation! I was reminded of the emerging independence of the Congo and the short life of its charismatic leader, Patrice Lumumba. The intervention of the CIA and the subsequent assassination of Patrice were entirely 'coincidental' events! |
